Across The Years – Melbourne Family Photography in the Eastern Suburbs
One of the greatest joys of family photography is watching families grow, and being invited back to capture those changes years later. This gorgeous crew first invited me along for a casual BBQ session photoshoot, filled with sunshine, sausages, and laughter. Fast forward a few years, and their family of four had grown into five, with a new burst of energy and a return to the beautiful Lilydale Lake for another afternoon of memories.
First Session – A Family BBQ with Heart
A family barbecue is such a fantastic way to gather loved ones in a relaxed environment, allowing for the perfect blend of heartfelt portraits and candid chaos! We had cousins chasing each other on the lawn, grandparents soaking it all in, and aunties and uncles chatting while the barbecue smoked in the background. There were far too many images to share here, but what stood out most was the love… captured in hugs, group shots, bubble-blowing and those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments of connection. When families open up their everyday rituals for a shoot, the results are always something special.
Back Again – With a New Little Acrobat
It has been a delight to meet this family again… now a family of five! The kids were taller, the energy levels just as high, and the new little sister was so excited to join the fun. This time, we explored Lilydale Lake, making the most of its beautiful walking tracks, footbridges, and that ever-popular playground. There were games of chase, swings and monkey bars, zip lines, and giggles galore. Not to mention more demonstrations of the family’s weekend hobby – circus training! The kids loved showing off their acrobatic skills under the gum trees. Dad could most certainly hoist his eldest daughter sky-high… even if she’s doubled in size since last time!

This session was everything I love about family photography: movement, giggles, silliness, laughter, and light. Seeing a family across different chapters is a reminder of just how quickly time moves… and how priceless it is to – literally – pause these moments.
