Photographing Fairley’s fabulously messy second birthday party at The Hungry Peacock Café in Tyabb was a delight. What a celebration it was! Full of colour, chaos, and cheeky smiles, this event was bursting with joy (and paint)!

Messy Shed Mayhem

The Hungry Peacock’s Messy Shed is a sensory wonderland for little hands and big imaginations. Fairley and her crew dove straight into all things gooey, gritty, and gloriously chaotic — finger painting, roller splashing, muck diving for magnetic letters, and treasure digging in dirt. Yes, it got wild. Yes, it was perfect.

Colourful Experiments & Window Painting

The fun kept rolling with eyedropper dye experiments, DIY waterworks with funnels and pipes, and even window painting sessions that turned glass into a kaleidoscope. And then there was the slime. So. Much. Slime. As a birthday photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a more joyful, colour-splashed setting to capture candid magic.

Lunch and Games in the Old Church

After the messy mayhem, the party moved into the charming old church on-site: the perfect spot for a relaxed lunch and a breather. Kids played board games and blew bubbles while grown-ups recharged, giving me plenty of opportunities to snap sweet in-between moments.

Cake Time! (And Teletubbies, of course!)

Then came the Teletubbies cake, and Fairley’s moment in the spotlight. Surrounded by balloons, family, and sticky-handed friends, she blew out her candles with a grin that could light up a room.

Fairley’s parents cut the cake, and then it was time to head outside for some fresh air and to play on the playground. This was the perfect moment to snap some more official family portraits, capturing the love and joy that filled the air. For birthday photographers, these opportunities to create lasting family memories are cherished.

On the back of my camera, I could already see that these were the kinds of images that grow more special with each passing year. These little slices of life are why I adore birthday photography so much. As the party wrapped up and the last of the cake was munched, I packed up my gear feeling completely charmed by Fairley and her beautiful, joy-filled day.
