Melbourne Cake Smash Photography
Cake smash photography is pure joy – colourful, messy, and bursting with personality. While I don’t get to do them as often as I’d love, this one with sweet Sarita will always hold a special place in my heart.
This session takes us back to 2017, when I joined Raj and Pooja to celebrate their daughter Sarita’s big milestone. Looking back at these photos is like opening a time capsule of laughter, icing, and unforgettable family moments. Since then, I’ve captured many more (including a 10-baby, 10-cake event for a legendary mums group) …and I’d love to do more!
Styling That Sets the Scene
Raj and Pooja created a stunning little set for Sarita’s session – pastel pink and white streamers, pom-poms, and the softest colour palette you can imagine. Their thoughtful styling made for a gorgeous backdrop without stealing the spotlight from the birthday girl. (Pro tip: neutral tones with soft pastels are perfect for cake smash photos — they let the colours pop in the best way!)
Starting with Family
Before the smashing began, we captured some relaxed family portraits. Raj and Pooja dressed in coordinating white tops that kept the attention on Sarita, who was dressed in a charming white dress and tiny pearls. (Too cute. Truly.) These quiet moments made for beautiful photos – full of warmth, pride, and anticipation. Sarita approached the cake with curiosity and a hint of caution, but she didn’t take long to dive in! The soft pink icing and delicate cream base perfectly complemented the rest of the styling – and the more icing ended up on Sarita, the cuter it all became. Her white dress framed the colourful chaos like a dream.
Parents Get in on the Fun
Once Sarita had made her mark on the cake, it was time for Mum and Dad to jump in. These interactive family shots always turn out so joyful — genuine laughter, sticky fingers, and hugs that end with frosting in unexpected places. We wrapped up the session with one last close-up of the cake (or what was left of it!), capturing the sweet, silly ending to a beautiful afternoon.
